Kabuki & Noh Percussion from FXpansion is a drum sample expansion pack for the company's BFD3 and BFD2 acoustic drum software. Produced by Sonica, it features a collection of authentically played Japanese percussion instruments and noisemakers. The instruments were played by master Japanese percussionist Takinojo Mochizuki with alternating left/right hits and up to ninety-nine velocity layers.
Fifty-six Japanese percussion instruments including traditional hand drums, pitched drums, bells, gongs and music boxes, alongside Noh flute and authentic vocal motifs, deliver the emotions, grandeur, and mystery of Kabuki and Noh performances. Also included are the ashibyoshi foot beats and tsukeuchi sound-effect clappers that are crucial to Kabuki performance.
Vintage mics, Neve preamps, and an anechoic room similar to the bamboo-curtained orchestra room in a Kabuki theater were used for the recordings. Reverb can be added as needed. Also available are over 150 grooves that offer instant access to real nagauta and Noh performance rhythm patterns.
