The Mono Mic Preamp from Manley Labs is a single-channel all-tube microphone preamplifier with enough gain to operate most ribbon microphones and any dynamic or condenser microphone. Each unit is hand-wired with silver solder and professional-grade components, including hand-picked tubes and custom-wound nickel transformers. The gain switch features variable negative feedback which allows for changing the speed, placement and tonal balance of the signal. As a result, the Mono Pre is capable of a broad range of tones from mellow and smooth to fast and punchy.
The Mono Mic Pre features 48V phantom power, a phase reverse switch and a noiseless conductive plastic input attenuator, which controls the signal pre-tube. This allows the unit a headroom of up to + 32dB without clipping, resulting in less distortion of the upper harmonics.
In addition to the single XLR input, the Mono Mic Pre has a front-panel 1/4" direct input jack for processing any audio signal through the all-tube line stage and nickel transformers, including signals from guitars, keyboards, and drum machines. The transformer on the balanced output offers classic vintage coloration, while the metal film capacitors of the unbalanced output sound clean and pure. The internal power supply features custom double-shielded power transformers and large reservoir capacitors for high level noise rejection and quiet operation. Handmade in the USA, the unit is housed in a 1U steel chassis with a CNC-machined 1/4" faceplate that is also inlaid with laser-engraved inserts. The Mono Mic Pre ships with an IEC power cable.
