The Swedish Chameleon SC4: LARGE Dovetail Based Shoulder Support comes with a follow focus and weightless counterweight system.
The SC4:LARGE is created for filmmakers with long workdays, long shoots, or heavy setups with many accessories that need to be attached to the rig. The backrod and waistbelt work as an effective counterweight system. It performs the same function as an ordinary heavy counterweight system, but without adding weight. Not only does it take all the weight off your arms, it even allows you to let go of the handles. Together with the large and comfortable angled shoulder piece that distributes the weight evenly over your shoulder, you will be able to carry a heavy setup for a long period of time.
The dovetail system makes the transition from tripod (no rig) to shoulder quite fast. The shoulder and handles unit can be detached from the rig in seconds, leaving you with a complete tripod top consisting of a 150mm dual dovetail plate, bridgeplate with two 15mm iris rods, camera fixation plate for one screw mount camera, and follow focus.
The SC4:LARGE includes the reversible, belt-driven, one-rod-mount SC4:FFOCUS that together with the handles unit is designed in a way that makes it possible to hold onto the handles while pulling focus. Also included is the SC:ATTACH that can be used to support larger lenses with tripod support, or to attach accessories.
The SC4:DUAL DT PLATE is a 150mm long and 49.2mm wide dual dovetail plate that fits all tripods compatible with the Manfrotto 501PL/500PLONG and similar plates. It has safety pins on both ends to reduce the risk of the gear sliding off by mistake. The dovetail plate allows for balance adjustments when shooting on a tripod and for positioning of the whole setup when on the shoulder. It also has holes for attaching an optional mounting plate (sold separately) that allows you to mount other types of tripod plates or to extend with an additional SC4:DUAL DT PLATE 150 mm.
The SC4:MODULAR BRIDGEPLATE is the bridge between the camera and the SC4:DUAL DT PLATE 150mm. It holds two 15mm rods (2 pieces 300 x 15mm rods are included but you can use any length of standard 15mm rods). Rods are easily adjusted horizontally and tightened by the turn of an adjustable knob. The rods enable mounting of the SC4:FFOCUS (also other dual rod mounted follow focuses), mattebox, and other accessories. The distance from center of rod to camera base is 29.6mm and centre to centre of rods is industry standard 60mm. The top and bottom of the SC4:MODULAR BRIDGEPLATE is dovetail style.
The SC4:DT CAMERA QR PLATE is slid onto the top of the SC4:MODULAR BRIDGEPLATE for an SC4:MEDIUM or SC4:LARGE setup or straight onto the SC4:DT CLAMP SINGLE ROD 15mm and the SC4:DT HANDLES UNIT for an SC4:SMALL setup. This makes it smooth to go from tripod/no rig to full shoulder setup -- just keep the SC4:DT CAMERA QR PLATE attached to the camera at all times. The SC4:DT CAMERA QR PLATE fits all tripods that are compatible with the Manfrotto 501PL and similar plates.
The SC4:SHOULDER is a robust but lightweight aluminum plate formed to go over the shoulder. It is dressed with a thick, angled neoprene dressed foam pad, and distributes the weight evenly over your shoulder. The plate has multiple holes and there are 3 touch fastener straps to hold batteries, cables, transmitters, etc. At the front, the SC4:SHOULDER is connected to the SC:ROD S-SHAPED 15 x 300mm CC50. Depending on how you rotate the rod, you can make vertical adjustments (chest to eye level) and offset adjustments of 10cm. At the back, you can connect the SC4:SHOULDER to the SC:BACKROD SUPPORT 400MM for counterweight. The SC:BACKROD SUPPORT 400mm can easily be attached to or detached from the SC4:SHOULDER by the turn of an adjustable knob. This way you will be able to carry a heavy setup for a long period of time.
The SC4:LARGE also comes with a simple shoulder piece so that you can choose to assemble an SC4:SMALL or SC4:MEDIUM as well. It consists of a foam dressed SC:ROD S-SHAPED 15x400mm CC110. Depending on how you rotate the rod you can make vertical adjustments (chest to eye level) with as much as 22cm. You can choose to keep the rod under your arm, leaning it on the shoulder, or detach it completely from the support. Having the rig resting on your shoulder instead of pressing it towards your chest (as is the case with many run n' gun gunstock solutions) reduces arm fatigue and gives you a third stabilization point that results in smooth movements and does wonders for reducing the shakiness and micro-shakes.
The SC4:DT HANDLES UNIT consists of a dovetail dual rod clamp, two 22 x 130mm rods, and 2 curved handles with rubber grip. It has a wide distance of 140mm from center to center of the handle rods giving you maximum roll stability and comfort for the arms. The 22mm rods can be adjusted horizontally depending on how close to your body you wish to keep the camera. You can also turn the handles straight up creating a v-rig for low down shooting. The SC4:DT HANDLES UNIT easily slides onto the SC4:DUAL DT PLATE 150mm (or straight on the SC4:DT CAMERA QR PLATE for an SC:SMALL setup) and is firmly secured by a knob.
This really is three rigs in one since everything for assembling the SC4:SMALL or SC4:MEDIUM is included. This way you can always choose the right rig for the occasion. It fits all DSLRs and camcorders and is also compatible with cages of all kinds. This rig is made from 7075 CNC-machined aluminum and weighs only 4.9 lb (2.2kg).
The SC4:LARGE is delivered in an SC:CASE MEDIUM water, dust, and shock-protection case in black plastic. It has 2 layers of shock absorbing foam and weighs 7.0 lb (3.2kg).
