User manual for the Ikelite 6243.31 ULTRAcompact Housing for Canon ELPH 310 6243.31
The user manual for the Ikelite 6243.31 ULTRAcompact Housing for Canon ELPH 310 6243.31 provides
necessary instructions for the proper use of the product Photography - Underwater Photography - Still Cameras & Housings.
The Ikelite 6243.31 ULTRAcompact Housing for Canon ELPH 310 HS/ IXUS 230 HS Camera is an injection-molded clear polycarbonate case, known for its strength and corrosion-free properties. It permits you to shoot underwater with your Canon PowerShot ELPH 310 HS/ IXUS 230 HS digital camera. The housing features a depth rating of 200' (60 m). All camera controls except the Mode switch are fully functional through the housing, via its mechanical controls. An easy-open latch and drop-in camera loading make set-up a breeze. Two 12-24 threaded mounts on the bottom of the housing allow for the secure, rotation-free attachment of optional trays and lighting accessories. The housing comes with a 1cc tube of silicone lubricant, a flash diffuser, a flash deflector, a vinyl port cover and a break-away lanyard.
The included flash diffuser improves lighting quality when the camera's built-in flash is used. A built-in flash is effective from 1.0 - 3.0' (0.3 - 0.9 m) away from your subject in clear conditions. To achieve the best results, an external underwater strobe is recommended. This will bring out the natural color of your subject and reduce the illumination of particles suspended in the water, known as backscatter. An optional Ikelite AutoFlash AF35 can provide additional light with easy automatic exposure. You may also use an optional DS Substrobe with EV Manual Controller for more power and wider angle of coverage (strobes not included). See All recommended strobe systems.
Also great for helping to restore natural color underwater are color correction filters. Effective in relatively shallow, sunny conditions, they replace some of the reds, oranges and more natural tones that would otherwise be lost underwater. The optional #6441.41 and #6441.81 filters are available for tropical blue water and green water, respectively (not included). For best results, use filters in combination with a manual white balance.
The housing has slightly positive buoyancy in fresh water. It comes standard with a flat port, which accepts 67 mm threaded #6420 Ikelite W-20 and other external wide-angle lenses attached directly to the front of it. The housing is not compatible with bayonet-style accessory lenses. Wide-angle lenses increase angle of coverage, allowing you to get much closer to your subject while still fitting everything in-frame. By reducing the amount of water between subject and lens, you get a much more crisp and colorful image.
The housing allows for the attachment of a video light to further enhance your underwater imaging. The Pro-V8 LED is great when using the camera's movie mode and for aiding in focus. Use it with or without a color filter.
