The Quick Release Module features 1/4"-20 threaded stud on the top and a 1/4"-20 female receiver on the bottom. This allows you to break down your rig quicker, or with additional 1/4"-20 male top mounts, you can quickly switch between accessories. The QR mechanism features a spring-loaded ball bearing set-up that you trigger by pushing the release collar down; this allows the ball bearing to release the top mount.
The top mount features a six-sided rod with a depression on each facet to accept the ball bearing, and it mates to the six sided shaft of the release mechanism; this allows options in orienting the accessory, and the six sided shape locks into place so your accessory is secure and doesn't rotate in the QR mechanism, while a rubber friction pad keeps your accessory from rotating on the top mount once attached.
