For editors looking for a high-end, robust workstation, the HP Z840 Rackable Turnkey Workstation with Sony Vegas Pro and Blackmagic DeckLink Studio 4K offers a solution. It combines a professional rackmountable computer with Sony Vegas Pro 13 professional editing software, plus the Blackmagic Design DeckLink Studio 4K card for capture and playout of high resolution video. At the heart of this system is the HP Z840 K7P08UT Rackable Workstation. This server-grade computer features a 2.3 GHz Intel Xeon E5-2650 v3 ten-core CPU backed up by 32GB of RAM. To provide the GPU acceleration full-quality high resolution video playback requires - as well as support the more mundane task of driving your monitors (available separately) - the workstation features the NVIDIA Quadro K4200 GPU with 1344 CUDA Cores and 4GB of RAM. A 512GB SSD drive is provided to hold Windows and all of the applications. The advantage of using an SSD is faster boot times as well as faster applications launching. For media storage, there are three 2TB HDDs that are striped together in RAID 0 configuration, giving you a 6TB logical volume.
Sony Vegas Pro 13 continues the tradition of supporting most popular codecs natively in the timeline, with the ability to mix and max formats at will, but adds many notable new features. Among them, Vegas Pro Connect, an iPad app that allows producers and other members of the team to review footage on the go, and take notes that are recorded in metadata. It also introduces support for "proxy-first" editing, in which-when using a compatible XDCAM camcorder-a proxy version can be FTPed to editorial so the cut can start right away. This feature allows you to save metadata for an entire project, or just metadata recorded from the timeline, so that it can be recalled down the road if ever needed.
For capture and monitoring, the DeckLink Studio 4K Capture & Playback Card from Blackmagic Design comes installed. The I/O card features features 6G-SDI and 4K HDMI input and output, and can support resolutions from SD to Ultra HD 4K (3840 x 2160) and DCI 4K (4096 x 2160). Additionally, the DeckLink Studio 4K offers a wide range of video and audio connections via an included breakout cable. These connections consist of analog component, S-Video, composite video, two channels of AES/EBU audio, and four channels of balanced analog audio. The card also provides RS-422 deck control, a reference input, and a down-converted SD output.
So that you can ingest media for file-based workflows, a 15-in-1 internal card reader is included. The reader supports CompactFlash, SDHC, MemoryStick, and more. The reader interfaces with the computer via USB 3.0.
