User manual for the Promise Technology SuperTrak EX8768 Hardware RAID STEX8768

The user manual for the Promise Technology SuperTrak EX8768 Hardware RAID STEX8768 provides necessary instructions for the proper use of the product Computers & Solutions - Computer Components - Controller Cards.

The Promise Technology SuperTrak EX8768 Hardware RAID Controller Card manages an array of up to 8 external hard drives. Featuring enhanced performance in editing, manipulating, rendering, and storing of digital content, the controller is suitable for use by audio, photo and video professionals. It comes with a built-in PMC Sierra 8011 I/O processor, 512 MB DDR2 (Double Data Rate 2) memory, and features 6 Gbps SAS / SATA and 8x PCIe Express 2.0 host bus interfaces.

PerfectRAID technology facilitates error handling, error recovery and media patrol. Media Patrol detects hard drive failure and copies all the data to a spare disk, thereby averting potential data loss. Online capacity expansion and RAID level migration allow you easily increase hard drive capacity.

The Hardware RAID controller supports RAID 0, 1, 1E, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60. In addition, it supports automatic or manual array rebuild, array expansion, array migration, bad sector remapping, dedicated hot spares, hot plug, hot swap, and online firmware updates (update from OS). SPGIO (Serial General Purpose Input / Output) helps provide backplane management. SES II (SCSI Enclosure Services) manages external devices such as the promise J-Class JBOD subsystem.

In the event of a power failure, the Force Unit Access (FUA) quickly copies all the data to the hard drive to minimize data loss. The optional Battery Backup Unit (BBU) preserves data in the hardware RAID controller cache for 72 hours on a full charge.

The WebPAM Pro web management tool allows you to disable the cache in the hard drive, setup email notification for critical or non-critical events, and monitor hard drive and battery charge status. You can use the EX8768 RAID controller in conjunction with file servers, exchange servers, transactional databases, and web servers. It offers Linux open source driver support and multiple logical drive support, and also works with the latest SSDs.

The hardware RAID controller provides you the flexibility to work with Windows 2003 / 2008 / 7 along with Fedora Core Linux, Free BSD, Miracle Linux, Redhat, SuSE Linux and VMware.
