User manual for the Dave Smith Instruments Pro 2 Synthesizer - Hybrid DSI-2400
The user manual for the Dave Smith Instruments Pro 2 Synthesizer - Hybrid DSI-2400 provides
necessary instructions for the proper use of the product Pro Audio - Musical Instruments - Synthesizer Keyboards.
The Dave Smith Instruments Pro 2 Synthesizer - Hybrid Digital Oscillator and Analog Filter Monophonic and Paraphonic Synthesizer is designed for studio recording and live performance applications. The three-and-a-half octave synthesizer with velocity and after touch semi-weighted keyboard is referred to as a hybrid because it combines four digital oscillators and a sub-oscillator with super saw waves and classic inspired dual analog filters.
The first of the two analog filters is a 4-pole low pass design inspired by the filter found on the original Prophet-5 synthesizer. The second filter is a state variable design inspired by the Oberheim SEM synthesizer created by Tom Oberheim which allows the filter to be continuously varied between notch, low-pass, and high-pass with an optional band-pass mode. These two filters can be connected in series, parallel, or a combination in between.
Two of the oscillators can be routed through filter 1 and the other two can be routed through filter 2. The oscillators can produce a wide range of wave shapes and can modulate each other by amplitude and frequency in any modulator or operator configuration for a diverse choice of harmonically enriched AM and FM sounds. To further enhance the character of the sound, the synthesizer also includes controls for high and low frequency boosting, bit depth and sample rate reduction, and a tape saturation emulation.
The device also includes a step sequencer with up to 32 steps, 16 tracks, real-time input rests, and variable-length sequences. The sequencer can be synced to a MIDI clock, an external audio input, or a control voltage, and the sequencer tracks can control any parameter in the synthesizer's modulation matrix.
The back-panel of the instrument features four control voltage inputs and outputs as well as a dedicated gate output. This allows you to interface the device with modular synthesizers. The control voltages can be assigned and routed with the modulation matrix and operate at audio rates for modulation effects. Parameters that may be sent to the control voltage outputs include LFOs, envelopes, oscillators, and sequencer tracks.
The instrument features three digital delays with pan as well as high-pass and low-pass filtering controls. A fourth delay uses a digital bucket-brigade design to create analog-style effects. Additional modulators include four loopable five-stage envelope generators, an arpeggiator, four syncable LFOs with slew and phase offset control, and a sixteen-slot modulation matrix.
The synthesizer is both a monophonic synthesizer as well as a four-voice paraphonic synthesizer with the ability to control each oscillator individually with a separate envelope. This enables playing four-note chords.
The semi-weighted full-sized keyboard features velocity and channel aftertouch to enable expressive playing of the synthesizer's unique circuit design. Additional expression controls include two location and pressure sensitive touch sliders and two backlit pitch and modulation wheels. A foot switch (sold separately) can be connected to the rear panel's 1/4" foot switch input for effects such as sustain.
