User manual for the Nord Lead 4 Virtual Analog Table Top Rack Mountable NL4-RACK
The user manual for the Nord Lead 4 Virtual Analog Table Top Rack Mountable NL4-RACK provides
necessary instructions for the proper use of the product Pro Audio - Musical Instruments - Synthesizer Modules.
The Nord Lead 4 Virtual Analog Table Top Rack Mountable Synthesizer is designed for live performance and studio recording. It is a rackmount version of the Nord 4 Lead Virtual Analog Synthesizer, without the keyboard. The device utilizes a 2x oversampled subtractive synthesis sound engine with two oscillators per voice and generates saw, square, sine, triangle, pulse, and PWM waveforms. The first oscillator offers eight different wavetypes and the second oscillator includes a noise generator, resonance control, and filter cut off. Using the true voice unison mode, you can layer up to four voices on top of one another to build complex sounds. Hard and soft synchronization controls can be used to link the two oscillators to create rich harmonics.
The synthesizer includes two flexible LFO sections per slot which can be synchronized to the master clock and assigned individual time divisions. A variety of LFO shapes including pulse, saw, and sine makes it easy to create pulsing atmospheric pads and wobbling bass lines. The LFOs can be retriggered by a key or an Impulse Morph button and can be used to modulate the FX section of the synthesizer.
The device features classic 12, 24, and 48 dB high-pass, low-pass, and band-pass filters with an ADSR filter and envelope and user selectable tracking. It also includes emulations of the Minimoog and Roland TB-303 synthesizer diode and transistor ladder filters. A drive filter allows you to distort each voice before the signal goes through the effects section of the device. The effects section includes a vintage tube amp emulated overdrive, a voice-like talk box, a sample-reducing crush effect, a comb filter, a side-chainable compressor, and a reverb delay section with 3 reverbs, feedback control, tempo control, and a dry/wet mix knob.
A special feature of this synthesizer is a row of three Impulse Morph buttons that when pressed will spontaneously change the other synthesizer parameters to alter your sound. A Mutator feature automatically generates new sound programs with the capacity to adjust style and strength. Additional controls include a modulation wheel for changing knob parameters, four voice layering with the option to split and hold the voices into two slots, a pitch stick for bending notes, a chord memory button for playing chords with one finger, a four octave arpeggiator that can be synced to the delay and LFO with the Master Clock, and a Patterns feature that applies rhythms to the LFO or arpeggiator.
Global tempo of the synthesizer is controlled by the Master Clock. The tempo can be changed by using the tap-tempo button and the arpeggiator, LFO, and delay can all be synced to the Master Clock or slaved to an external MIDI clock. The unit has four separate audio outputs, which allows you to send the four slots to different channels on a mixer or audio interface. The device includes a USB port to work as a MIDI interface, and comes included with the Nord Sound Manager app for Mac and Windows that allows you to easily manage the sound programs on your computer.
