The 512GB Palm RAID Portable SSD from Akitio includes two 256GB mSATA SSDs in a device that can fit in a pocket. This portable drive connects to Mac and Window systems that have an available bus-powered Thunderbolt port. The drive offers read speeds of up to 713 MB/s and write speeds of up to 414 MB/s when software-configured in RAID 0, which provides the fastest performance, but which reduces the storage size in half. The Palm RAID is pre-formatted with the HFS+ file system for use on Mac. For use on Windows systems, you must reformat the drive and install the certified Thunderbolt device driver. The Palm RAID uses a heatsink for quiet cooling without the need for a fan. The case features a tethered Thunderbolt cable and LED that lights up to indicate when the system is on .
