User manual for the Benchmark ADC16 - Analog to Digital Converter 500-14500-105
The user manual for the Benchmark ADC16 - Analog to Digital Converter 500-14500-105 provides
necessary instructions for the proper use of the product Pro Audio - Computer Audio - AD/DA Converters.
The ADC16 from Benchmark Media is a sixteen-channel, analog-to-digital converter with a flexible input/output routing solution. In keeping with the company's "pure audio" philosophy, the unit utilizes the UltraLockDDS clock system for virtually indistinguishable jitter. Sixteen transformerless analog inputs with 20 dB gain controls feed the eight converters that feature their own matched-impedance transmission lines, and jitter distortion is always a comfortable 135 dB below the level of music. By avoiding an asynchronous sample rate conversion system, the converter is able to reduce latency and provide the most direct path from the analog to digital converter to the digital outputs. The UltraLockDDS clock system is based on technology originally intended for high-frequency RF communications systems. It features a fixed-frequency, low-phase noise oscillator with temperature compensation capable of +/-2 PPM frequency accuracy. The UltraLockDDS system can lock to any sample rate between 28 and 200 kHz almost instantly and is designed with pull-up/pull-down sample rates to handle film or video transfers flawlessly. Jitter is always attenuated to levels that are well below audibility and jitter performance is identical in all modes of operation. A multi-format clock input automatically recognizes AES/EBU, S/PDIF, Wordclock, or Super Clock signals and is used to synchronize the digital outputs. The digital outputs can be clocked to the unit's high-precision internal clock and will automatically revert to the internal clock source if an external clock is interrupted. With the installed FireWire card the unit can function as a sole interface for a FireWire-equipped DAW. For older systems, connection is possible via the ADAT or coaxial outputs to systems that support those input formats. Front-panel, nine-segment, single-sample accurate meters are included on each channel for monitoring of input levels. The meters can be set to display in 6 dB or 1 dB increments, and in both cases can be put into "peak-hold" mode, which will hold the highest-valued sample until the mode is reset. "Press-and-Hold" buttons are provided for critical settings to avoid any accidental resetting of the unit.
