The 4TB DriveStation HD-LCU3 USB 3.0 External Desktop Hard Drive from Buffalo is an internal SATA 3Gb/s HDD with a 5400rpm spindle speed, enclosed in a noise-reducing chassis that can be positioned vertically or horizontally to fit into various spaces. It offers a USB 3.0 port and cable for fast data transfer rates of up to 5Gb/s, and plug-and-play connectivity for easy setup and operation. The included Buffalo Tools software suite for Windows PCs provides you with their Backup Utility for backing up one or multiple computers with your single DriveStation HD-LCU3. If your computer is a Mac, simply use Time Machine to schedule regular backups. Buffalo Tools for Windows also includes eco Manager to conserve energy and reduce battery consumption, shutting the hard drive down when the connected computer is turned off; SecureLock to afford you complete control of the data encryption on your drive, including password protection and software encryption; and TurboPC, including TurboCopy, to enhance file transfer performance using the high-speed RAM of your PC.
Formatted using the NTFS file system, the drive is set up for PCs running Windows 8, 7, Vista or XP by default. It can be reformatted for Mac computers running OS X 10.5 - 10.8 using Mac Disk Utility, though only basic external hard drive functionality is supported with the Mac OS, and some included utilities may not work.
