Right out of the box, you can use the teleprompter with almost any camcorder that has a flat base. To use with a DSLR camera, or any other camera with a shorter footprint, the included special DSLR shelf can be fastened to the end of the camera base-plate in order to move your camera's lens closer to the prompter glass for optimal performance.
