User manual for the Ikelite 6146.01 Underwater Housing For Canon PowerShot 6146.01
The user manual for the Ikelite 6146.01 Underwater Housing For Canon PowerShot 6146.01 provides
necessary instructions for the proper use of the product Photography - Underwater Photography - Still Cameras & Housings.
The Ikelite 6146.01 Underwater Housing For Canon PowerShot G1 X is a durable underwater case molded from clear polycarbonate to prevent corrosion. It boasts a depth rating of 200' (61 m). The housing features mechanical controls offering access to all camera functions except for the diopter adjustment dial and pop-up flash. It comes standard with an optical grade glass flat port allowing full use of the camera's zoom range without vignetting effects. A flash diffuser is also included to enhance image quality when using the camera's built-in flash to illuminate your subject.
Dedicated conversion circuitry integrated into the housing delivers true Canon eTTL exposure when connected to any current model Ikelite DS Substrobe (not included). Direct electronic communication between the camera and flash offers the most accurate and consistent exposure information possible. The hard-wired flash does not require the camera's built-in flash to fire, thus facilitating the shortest possible lag time between shots, while conserving the camera's battery life. A right-angle bulkhead lessens the strain on the sync cord during handling and assembly.
A tray and release handle (included) affords balance and superb handling, while also serving as a convenient attachment point for optional Substrobe mounting arms (not included). This tray setup can be easily removed using just two nuts for packing or attaching the optional #9523.62 Dual Handle and Tray assembly (not included), which offers improved stability and enables the addition of a second Substrobe or video light.
There are optional color correcting filters available (not included) to replace some of the reds and more natural tones that are otherwise absorbed underwater. The #6441.46 UR / Pro filter is for tropical blue water, while the #6441.86 is for green. Filters work effectively in shallow, sunny conditions, depending upon the water's clarity. For optimum results, use them along with a manual white balance.
The optional WD-4 Wide Angle Conversion Dome (not included) corrects for refractive magnification to take advantage of the camera's full angle of view underwater. The dome is removable and replaceable underwater and requires no modification to the housing's standard port.
Optional external macro adapter #9306.82 (not included) fits over the front of the housing's lens port, enabling you to attach 67 mm threaded macro lenses from Inon and Epoque. Like the WD-4, this adapter can be removed or replaced beneath the surface and requires no modification to the standard port.
The housing also affords a variety of lighting options. Consider Ikelite DS series Substrobes, which provide warm, even coverage and blazing-fast recycle times. All current model strobes will work with this housing, while older models may need circuitry updates. There are also sync cords available for connecting non-Ikelite strobes from Nikonos, Inon, and Sea & Sea. Non-Ikelite strobes are usable only in manual modes.
Strobes that have a slave feature can be triggered by the camera's flash or, alternatively, by an Ikelite Substrobe. Specifically for video, the housing is compatible with the optional DS161 Movie Substrobe, offering warm, even coverage and 500 lumens of output, as well as the Pro-V8 LED light, also 500 lumens (not included). For another option, consider the PRO-2800 LED light, boasting a whopping 2800 lumens and a 100° angle of coverage.
A flash deflector, included with this housing, prevents the camera's flash from producing backscatter in the image. Optional part #9571.3 (not included) features a 1.0" (2.5 cm) ball for attachment to the top of the tray's release handle. This configuration gives you a mounting point for Ultralight, TLC and other non-Ikelite arm systems.
