Constructed from glass-fiber reinforced plastic, the ThinkPad W550s 20E2001BUS 15.6" Mobile Workstation from Lenovo blends the form factor of an Ultrabook with the processing power of a mobile workstation. This system is powered by a 5th generation (Broadwell) 2.4 GHz Intel Core i7-5500U Dual-Core processor, allowing you to run multiple programs simultaneously. If you need more power, the processor can be overclocked to 3.0 GHz and the 8GB of 1600 MHz PC3-12800 DDR3L RAM allows the computer to quickly access frequently-used files and programs. The RAM also has an SO-DIMM form factor and may be upgraded to 16GB, using an 8GB module in each of the two memory slots.
The 15.6" LED-backlit display features In-plane switching (IPS) technology, as well as a Full HD 1920 x 1080 native resolution, a brightness of 300 cd/m2, and a widescreen 16:9 aspect ratio. The dedicated NVIDIA Quadro K620M graphics card has 2GB of video memory and is designed to deliver a sharp, clear picture. You'll also be able to output video to an external display via the built-in mini-DisplayPort and VGA port.
For connecting to the Internet, a Gigabit Ethernet port and 802.11ac Wi-Fi are included. For connecting external peripherals, such as storage or optical drives, users may take advantage of the 3 x USB 3.0 ports, one of which doubles as an always-on charging port for devices that are compatible with USB charging. Additional compatible peripherals, such as headsets, keyboards, and mice, may be connected using Bluetooth 4.0 technology.
For long-term storage of your files, a 500GB 7200 rpm hard drive provides access to your data. Whether you are listening to music, watching a movie, or playing a game, the integrated stereo speakers with Dolby Advanced Audio offer high quality sound. There is also an integrated 720p webcam which allows you to engage in face-to-face conversations using Skype or other software, integrated dual noise-canceling HD mics, and a 4-in-1 media card reader that supports SD, SDHC, SDCX, and MMC cards. This system may also be upgraded to use WWAN (wireless wide area network) technology.
The ThinkPad W550s 20E2001BUS 15.6" Mobile Workstation includes an integrated 3-cell / 44Wh Lithium-polymer battery and an external 3-cell / 23Wh battery, which will last for up to 12.7 hours before recharging is required. Also included is a 65W AC adapter and while the installed operating system is Windows 7 Professional (64-bit), a license for Windows 8.1 Professional (64-bit) is also included..
