The ProSafe 8-Port Gigabit VPN Firewall Router from Netgear is an excellent network solution for securely providing wired or wireless Internet access within a LAN as well as wired access between remote LANs and to remote clients. The router features 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi connectivity, so you can wirelessly connect your computer or other Wi-Fi devices to it. In addition, this router features one WAN Ethernet 10/100/1000 port for establishing a wired connection to your DSL or cable modem. It also features a total of eight LAN Ethernet 10/100/1000 ports for establishing high-speed wired connections to servers, desktop PCs, and anything else that's Ethernet-enabled on your LAN network.
For establishing connections that aren't within your LAN, this ProSafe connects up to 5 remote office or traveling users via VPN SSL. As an alternative method, you can setup a total of 12 IPsec VPN tunnels for allowing remote LAN sites or users to connect to your network; however, you will need to purchase separate software, such as of ProSafe VPN Client Professional. For security, IPsec VPN connections can use 128-bit or 256-bit AES encryption and 168-bit 3DES encryption.
In terms of security and access to your network, this ProSafe supports up to 64 Virtual Local Area Networks (VLAN), in case you want to separate different groups of users on your network or restrict their bandwidth or access. In addition, this ProSafe features a Firewall with stateful packet inspection (SPI), DoS attack detection/logging, a dropped packet log, a security event log, and an email log. The ProSafe also features a configurable DMZ port and IKE authentication. Compatible with Linux, Windows, Unix, and Mac operating systems, this router is easy to setup and can be quickly configured to suit your networking needs.
