The Softube Console 1 Hardware and Software Mixer is an integrated hardware solution designed for studio mixing without the use of a mouse. The system consists of a software channel strip that can be inserted into any track within your DAW and a hardware controller for adjusting the parameters of that channel strip. You can overview all of the track levels using the on-screen meter bridge and the hardware's built-in meter display. You can switch between tracks using the controller's bank of channel selector buttons. When switching between channels, the built in LED indicators lights on the controller will change to indicate current channel strip levels and the on-screen display will change to show the selected channel. A bank of page up and down buttons enables access to additional channels in groups of 20, only limited by the processing power of your host computer and DAW setup.
The system comes with Softube's UK 4K channel strip which is a virtual model of a classic large-frame British console from the 1970's. The mixer channel includes an equalizer, a compressor, a gate, a transient shaper, and an adjustable drive saturation modeler that emulates the sound of running the signal through analog circuitry. A dynamic shape control combines an expander/gate with a transient shaper for unique signal modeling not available on the analog console equivalent. Each channel also includes high and low pass filters, phase reversal, solo, mute, pan, and volume controls. You can also customize the channel strip by inserting other Softube plug-ins.
Using the hardware controller, you can group multiple channels together to adjust their channel strip parameters simultaneously. You can also copy and paste the settings from one channel to another. The flexibility of the controller allows for parallel compression and side-chaining a signal through the gate or compressor. A history function allows you to undo any change to the plug-ins which enables easy experimentation when mixing. The system supports VST, VST3, AU, and AAX plug-in formats on Mac OS X systems. The hardware controller connects to your computer via USB.
