The Walkman uses the S-Master HX digital amplifier, which was developed to provide high resolution playback utilizing a mastering-quality digital amplifier for a wide frequency response, while minimizing distortion and noise. Other enhancements include an upgraded audio pathway using thick-film copper-layer PCBs, oxygen-free cables, and high-purity lead-free solder. Carefully selected components including coils, MELF type resistors, and film condensers further enhance the sound quality.
