The a77 II features a 24.3MP APS-C Exmor CMOS sensor and BIONZ X image processor to enable high-resolution stills shooting at up to 12 fps, full HD 1080p video recording at 60 fps, and sensitivity to ISO 25600 for working in difficult lighting conditions. Unlike traditional DSLRs, the a77 II utilizes the unique Translucent Mirror Technology, which directs light to the image sensor and focus sensor simultaneously to provide fast focusing performance using a 79-point AF system with 15 cross-type points. This technology also enables the inclusion of a 2.359m-dot Tru-Finder OLED electronic viewfinder, opposed to a classic optical finder, for eye-level live view monitoring. The camera also sports a 3.0" 1.228m-dot tilting LCD monitor, built-in Wi-Fi with NFC, and a weather-sealed magnesium alloy body.
Included with the camera body is the DT 16-50mm f/2.8 SSM lens; a wide-angle to short telephoto providing a 35mm-equivalent focal length range of 24-75mm. The constant f/2.8 maximum aperture maintains consistent performance throughout the zoom range while an SSM autofocus drive produces quick and quiet focus performance. Two aspherical elements and three extra-low dispersion elements are incorporated within the lens construction, which help to reduce chromatic aberrations and produce imagery with a high degree of sharpness and clarity. Additionally, the lens is designed with the same weather-resistant qualities as the a77 II to permit its use in inclement conditions.
