The ASUS Z170-Premium ATX Motherboard lets you build a high-end PC system that supports a variety of technologies. It comes with a Z170 chipset as well as the LGA1151 socket for supporting Intel's 6th-generation of Skylake processors. You may populate the four DIMM slots with up to 64GB of DDR4 memory and overclock these memory chips up to 4000 MHz using the ASUS T-Topology engine. In addition to the motherboard, ASUS includes an M.2 to U.2 adapter, a PCI Express x4 add-in M.2 card, an NFC Express 2 base, a wireless QI charger, and a 3x3 dual-band antenna Wi-Fi module to offer you a flexible system build.
ASUS has equipped this motherboard with four SATA III 6 Gb/s ports as well as two 10 Gb/s SATA Express ports for connecting with hard drives and optical drives. This motherboard also supports PCIe-based storage drives by offering a U.2 port and an M.2 slot. Building a computer with PCIe-based drives gives you nearly instant access to your data at a rate of 32 Gb/s. There's also a low-profile PCIe card that occupies the motherboard's PCIe x4 slot to provide you with a second M.2 slot. If you need another U.2 port, the included M.2 to U.2 adapter converts an M.2 slot.
This Z170-Premium motherboard comes outfitted with three PCIe 3.0 x16 slots so you can install dedicated graphics cards linked via SLI or CrossFireX. Using integrated Intel HD graphics, it delivers 4K visuals through the DisplayPort and HDMI ports. Four PCI x1 slots are also available to expand the motherboard's capabilities. To complete the multimedia experience, Realtek ALC1150 with Crystal Sound 3 technology immerses you in 8-channel sounds using your speakers or headset.
ASUS offers many connectivity perks that are not normally available on typical motherboards such as dual LAN controllers along with an 802.11ac Wi-Fi module with Bluetooth 4.0. To connect with external peripherals, this motherboard has two USB 2.0 ports and two USB 3.0 ports. For quicker access to external storage drives, it also comes with three 10 Gb/s USB 3.1 ports as well as a single USB Type-C port that utilizes Thunderbolt 3 technology, which delivers data at a rate of 40 Gb/s. Other notable features are the NFC Express 2 base and wireless charger for controlling your PC or refilling a smartphone's battery.
